“Wait, what just happened?” I am sitting here at Starbucks getting my study on and I realize I am at the tail end of my degree plan. I am working hard to graduate this upcoming December. YES! But wait, pause for a moment.
*Insert screeching halt sound here*
How did I finally get here? At one point, I thought it was not possible.
I remember the day I went to grade papers with my beautiful friend Jenna. She was grading away and at the same time getting work done for her Master’s Program. I was blown away! Like me, she had 3 little ones AND a full-time job, and not just any job, the kind you have to take home with you and work for hours on. I asked her, “How in the world do you do it?!” She said something that completely changed my perspective and got me off the couch of excuses. She said, “Time was passing anyway, I might as well be doing something.”
You mean to tell me…
THIS WHOLE TIME…
I could have been doing something????
I have to admit it. I should have known this. I should have acted. But you know what?? I handicapped myself thinking it wasn’t possible. I was a mom, I had three children, I now had a full-time job and was involved full-time in ministry with my husband as youth pastor. I just did. not. have. the. time.
But you know what, no excuse was good enough. It was true. Even if it was ONE class at a time, I could do it.
SO, I ventured off and started off small, two courses. And BAM! I was on my merry way! Now here I am sitting at Starbucks. This time only taking a SMALL pause to encourage any of you who are hindered by fear. Guess what, time is gonna pass anyway, you might as well be getting it done.
“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today”- Benjamin Franklin
…because you KNOW what?? Tomorrow never comes.
I want to be an encouragement to you, go test it out. If it be school or any other endeavor, start small and just see what you are capable of. I am up to 2 classes, a lab, and an internship this LAST semester! Yup. I may have taken a 10 year pause but I got back in there and I’m getting it done. Believe you can do it. Get out there! Get stuff done!
Pausing at times is important but please look at the following definitions: NOTE the words: TEMPORARY & BRIEFLY!
a temporary stop in action or speech.“she dropped me outside during a brief pause in the rain”
interrupt action or speech briefly.“she paused, at a loss for words”
What have you taken a pause on? What can you be actively doing since time is passing you by anyway? I’d love to hear from you!
